ABOUT US
Brian fell in love with hummus the first time he had it in all its glory from Oren’s Hummus in San Francisco, and growing up in South Carolina, it just wasn’t a thing. And while he’s been a constant consumer of it ever since, there’s always been a longing for that truly homemade, delicious taste, and it didn’t seem like there were options available in grocery stores that satisfied in the same way. So in his first year of business school, Brian set out to make a hummus mix that would allow people to add fresh olive oil and tahini—such important ingredients to make hummus what it is—whenever they’re ready to eat it. And the other nice thing—since it’s a powdered mix, it’s there in your pantry whenever you’re craving it.
Brian started working on Prest out of a donut shop in Boston, making individual batches and testing different flavor combinations on his classmates and friends. And finally after months of biking over to the donut shop with chickpeas in his backpack, the mix came together into the flavors that you see today.
While the idea for Prest was pretty immediate when Brian started school and was eating loads of store-bought hummus each week but throwing out many tubs that he accidentally let go bad in the fridge, it really goes back much farther than that. Growing up in a rural area, there just really weren’t great grocery options, and there honestly still aren’t today. There’s so much opportunity to reach people all over the US by just making great foods accessible by making them either locally sourced or longer lasting while maintaining incredibly high quality. And that’s what Prest is aiming to do, starting with our delicious hummus mixes.
